Care Tips
- The annual coat blow produces an enormous volume of loose undercoat — daily brushing for 2-4 weeks is required to manage the shed without the undercoat matting against the skin.
- Never shave a Tibetan Mastiff — the double coat is essential for both heat and cold regulation; shaving causes serious thermal stress.
- The mane area around the neck and collar is the highest-risk mat zone — check this area after every collar removal.
- Use a de-shedding undercoat rake or slicker to remove loose undercoat, followed by a wide-tooth comb to confirm no hidden mats remain.
- Bathing a Tibetan Mastiff requires a large tub, a high-velocity dryer, and significant time — the dense undercoat holds water for hours.
- Outside of the annual shed, the coat is relatively low-maintenance and requires brushing only once or twice per week.
