- Dental care is the most important overlooked health maintenance for Chihuahuas; their tiny mouths are prone to severe dental disease — brush teeth daily or weekly and schedule professional dental cleanings, as dental pain can make grooming handling more difficult.
- Chihuahua nails are tiny but grow fast and can curl into spirals if left untrimmed — use small, sharp nail scissors or a fine-grit grinder every 3 weeks to keep nails short and prevent walking discomfort.
- Some Chihuahuas have a molera — a soft spot on the skull similar to a human fontanel that may never fully close; handle the head gently during bathing and always protect this area from pressure or impact.
