A rectangular grooming brush with a flat or slightly curved pad filled with many short, fine, bent wire pins set close together. Slicker brushes are used to remove loose hair, detangle the coat, and smooth the topcoat of a wide variety of dog coat types.
The slicker brush is the most universally-used grooming tool across all coat types. It is especially effective on curly coats (Poodles, Doodles), silky coats (Yorkies, Maltese), and medium-length coats. Proper slicker brush technique is the foundation of preventing mats — it reaches deeper into the coat than bristle brushes.
Use gentle, flicking wrist motions rather than dragging the brush through the coat. Dragging applies excessive force and can cause 'brush burn' on sensitive skin. The slicker brush should glide, not pull.
