Care Tips
- A weekly once-over with a rubber grooming mitt or hound glove removes dead hair and stimulates skin circulation, keeping the short coat glossy without formal bathing.
- Vizslas have no doggy odor compared to many breeds — bathing every six to eight weeks is usually sufficient unless the dog has rolled in something or worked in the field.
- Check the large, pendulous ears after every field outing: foxtails, grass seeds, and debris collect in the ear canal and can cause painful infections if left unaddressed.
- Nail growth is rapid in an indoor dog; trim every three to four weeks to maintain a length that does not click on hard floors.
- Apply a paw balm or musher's wax to the pads seasonally — Vizslas have thin, sensitive skin and pads that can crack in very cold or very hot conditions.
