The Siberian Husky is a striking Arctic working breed developed by the Chukchi people of northeast Asia as an endurance sled dog. Their thick, double coat consists of a dense, soft undercoat and a coarser straight outer coat that provides insulation in extreme cold — and sheds prodigiously twice a year in events known as 'coat blows.' Huskies rank among the highest-shedding breeds and require intensive grooming management during seasonal shedding.

Care Tips
- Never shave a Siberian Husky — the double coat is a complete thermal regulation system that protects from both cold and heat; shaving destroys this system, increases sunburn risk, and often results in permanently altered coat texture.
- A Husky's coat blow can last 3-6 weeks; during this period, brush daily with an undercoat rake and run a high-velocity dryer over the coat every few days to blow out the loose undercoat before it turns into mats or blankets your home in fur.
- Line brush technique is essential for Huskies: part the coat down to the skin and brush small sections outward, working in rows from neck to tail, to ensure you reach the undercoat layer rather than just skimming the surface.
- After swimming or getting wet, a Husky's dense undercoat takes hours to dry naturally and can develop hot spots or mildew-like odor if left damp; use a high-velocity dryer to ensure the undercoat is completely dry.
- Huskies are self-cleaning and need bathing far less than most breeds — twice yearly (aligned with coat blows) plus as needed is sufficient; over-bathing strips the natural oils that give the double coat its water resistance.
