The Italian Greyhound is the smallest of the sighthound breeds — a miniature greyhound with an extremely fine, short, silky coat that requires virtually no grooming maintenance. The breed barely sheds, has no undercoat, and produces almost no doggy odor. Grooming needs are minimal, making the Italian Greyhound one of the easiest breeds to maintain.

Care Tips
- The Italian Greyhound's extremely thin skin and almost non-existent coat offer no protection from abrasions; after bathing, dry the dog gently with a warm towel — avoid hot air from dryers held too close, as the skin burns easily.
- IGs are prone to dental disease; dental hygiene should be part of every grooming visit — inspect the teeth and gums, and use a finger brush with dog-safe toothpaste at home between visits.
- The nails of the Italian Greyhound grow curved and can quickly become ingrown on a dog that does not do significant outdoor pavement walking. Trim every three to four weeks.
- The breed is highly cold-sensitive due to the lack of insulating coat and very low body fat; dry the dog completely after bathing and keep them warm during and after grooming sessions — especially in cooler weather.
- A weekly wipe with a warm, damp chamois or microfibre cloth removes dust and loose hairs and keeps the coat gleaming without a full bath — the IG's short coat responds beautifully to this simple home care technique.
