The Ibizan Hound is an ancient hunting sighthound from the Balearic Islands of Spain, prized for rabbiting in rocky Mediterranean terrain. Care Tips
- The Ibizan Hound's large, erect ears give excellent airflow to the ear canals — they are far less prone to ear infections than drop-eared hound breeds, but still clean monthly as routine maintenance.
- The smooth variety has very thin, sensitive skin — dry thoroughly after bathing and avoid hot dryer air held close to the skin, which burns easily on a sighthound's lean frame.
- The Ibizan Hound is naturally lean-bodied and athletic; inspect the hip bones, spine, and elbows at every groom for any pressure sores or calluses that can develop on hard resting surfaces.
- The wire coat variety benefits from a slicker brush used once weekly to remove dead coat — the rough texture catches debris during outdoor activity that needs combing out.
- Both coat varieties are extremely light shedders; the smooth variety requires almost no home coat maintenance beyond a weekly wipe with a rubber mitt.
