- The Entlebucher is a working herding dog with high energy — check paws after every vigorous outdoor session for grass seeds, burrs, and debris in the inter-digital hair.
- The short, dense coat sheds moderately year-round and more heavily during seasonal changes; an undercoat rake used once weekly during shedding seasons dramatically reduces loose fur indoors.
- Establish nail trimming and ear cleaning as routine from puppyhood — at 45-65 pounds, the Entlebucher is manageable, and cooperative adult grooming is much easier when habits are built early.
- The tricolor coat does not need any special color-maintaining products; the natural pigmentation is vivid and self-maintaining. A rubber mitt polish after bathing is all that is needed to showcase the markings.
- Avoid over-bathing — the Entlebucher's short, hard coat has natural soil resistance. Bathing every 6-8 weeks (unless the dog has rolled in something) preserves the coat's natural oils.
