Expert Advice
Care Tips
- Coat type is determined at birth by genetics — F1B Cockapoos have curlier, higher-maintenance coats than F1 Cockapoos.
- Brush thoroughly at least every other day — wavy coats mat just as easily as curly ones, especially behind the ears and in the armpits.
- Check the ear canal regularly — Cockapoos inherit the Cocker Spaniel's heavy, low-set ears, making them highly susceptible to ear infections.
- Always brush before bathing — water tightens existing tangles into solid mats that are difficult or impossible to brush out.
- If the coat is severely matted, a complete shave-down is the kindest option — never try to force a comb through solid mats.
- The coat continues to develop until around 18-24 months — puppies may have a different texture than their adult coat will be.
