The Bernedoodle crosses the striking tri-colored Bernese Mountain Dog with the Poodle, aiming to combine the Bernese's gentle temperament with the Poodle's low-shedding coat. Coat texture ranges from wavy to very curly depending on generation, and the coat often features the Bernese black, white, and rust tri-color pattern. The transition zones between wave and curl are especially prone to matting.

Care Tips
- The transition zone between wavy and curly sections (common in F1 Bernedoodles) is the most likely spot for hidden mats — check these areas carefully.
- Standard Bernedoodles are large dogs — full brushouts take considerable time; plan at least 20-30 minutes per session.
- Never shave the coat in summer without considering that the Bernese double-coat heritage provides insulation from heat as well as cold.
- The tri-color pattern can be accentuated or hidden by coat length — discuss this with your groomer before each appointment.
- Brush at minimum every other day using a slicker brush followed by a metal comb — confirm the comb passes freely all the way to the skin.
- Professional grooming every 6-8 weeks prevents the painful matting that is common when appointments are delayed.
