A grooming technique that uses a high-velocity forced-air dryer to dry the coat rapidly after bathing while simultaneously straightening the hair shaft and blasting out loose undercoat. The high-pressure airflow separates every individual hair, creating maximum volume and allowing the groomer to see and address every layer of the coat.
The blow-out is the foundation of a professional groom. A properly blown-out coat is fully dry to the skin (preventing hot spots and fungal infections), has maximum volume for precise scissoring, and has had loose undercoat removed, reducing future shedding. Never leave a dog's coat damp — moisture trapped near the skin causes skin fold infections.
Keep the dryer nozzle moving constantly to avoid heat concentration on one spot. Work in sections from the back of the dog forward, holding the coat taut with your free hand to maximize the straightening and drying effect.
